NIQS Federal Capital Territory (Unity) Chapter

The NIQS Federal Capital Territory (Unity) Chapter of the Nigeria institute of Quantity Surveyors was formally inaugurated on the 31st of May 1990 as an affiliate of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (Parent Body).

The Administration of the Body at inception was run by a caretaker committee of 5 persons. The Membership was made up of Quantity Surveyors drawn mainly from Private, Public sectors and Construction Companies within the 4 Area Councils namely Abuja Municipal, Gwagwalada, Abaji and Kuje.

The leadership of the body later transformed through an election to the hands of a seven-man executive member headed by Alhaji Abdulahi Badamasi now a retiree as the pioneer Chairman. Other elected members were Mr. Muftau B. Oloyede as Vice Chairman, Chief Okey Jim Nwagbara as General Secretary, Mr Anthony Odigi as Assistant General Secretary, Alhaji Wasiu Biodun Alayande as Treasurer and Alhaji A. A. Ndanusa as Publicity Secretary.

The activities of the body under the able leadership of Alhaji Abdulahi Badamasi and his executive members culminated in the formal launching of the body to a fully-fledged Chapter on Saturday the 22nd of October 1994 at Abuja Sheraton Hotel and Towers. The body became known and addressed as the "NIQS, FCT Chapter Abuja"

The Chapter has since grown in size in the present six Area Councils of the Territory and has also been participating activities at the National level. The Chapters' membership currently has amounted to about 1,320 made up of Fellows, Corporate Memberships, Probationers, Technicians and Students.

Aims and Objectives of the Chapter

To help the National Executive Council of the NIQS generally in the running of the institute and the Profession as contained in the NIQS Constitution and as delegated by the National Executive Council

  • To take care of member's interest in the Chapter
  • To educate the public in general about the profession and protect the image of the institute
  • To exchange views amongst members, encourage greater zonal and cultural interaction amongst members
  • To interact with other professionals
  • To organize seminars and workshops with the aim of promoting Quantity Surveying Profession
